LeaseGreen is designing and implementing an energy efficiency refit project for the property of Finnish Red Cross (FRC) Blood Service in Helsinki. In the course of project air ventilation systems will be modernised and operating principles modified. The heating and cooling will be refitted as well, and a new reserve power plant installed.

The property of FRC Blood Service has been built in various stages from 1970 to 1990. Approximately 450 professionals work daily in the buildings. The owner of the property is Hemfosa Fastigheter AB, a Swedish property company which is listed at the Nasdaq Stockholm Exchange.

”This property has been maintained very well, but with the age come the challenges for all properties”, says Pasi Nieminen, the country manager of Hemfosa’s Finnish operations.

”We will invest to new technology that we can secure a very long life cycle to the property. The indoor conditions will be taken into account very carefully. If the tenant get on well, so will the owner.”

Hemfosa is focusing on the properties which accommodate some form of community service operation, such as schools, preschools, healthcare and elderly care facilities or premises that are part of the legal system. The total value of its properties is about 3.5 billion euros.
